Hey guys, since we're getting closer to the end of the group stage of the monotype tournament, I wanted to start putting out the info for the next event, the first season of the Grand Pokémon League. The GPL will be a draft style league, in the sense that the initial rosters will be selected via a draft. The plan will be to run the GPL over multiple seasons with a season every spring and fall. Here is the basic rundown for how the league will work.

Registered Players/Teams

Zero (Zero17) - Pallet Town Heroes
Kira (OverlordKira2) - Lavender Town Spectres
UWorlds (UWorlds) - Cerulean Stars
Alec (Alec) - Anistar Aura
Sethyas (Sethyas) - Blackthorn Bloodseekers
Ruppy (Ruppy) - Olivine Beacons
Sandverse (Sandverse) - Pyrite Raiders
Custos (custos) - Littleroot Town Blazeknights
Gambit (Gambit) - Mauville Gamblers
Cuda (barracudajones) - Cerulean Celebis
Alexander (IONAurethious) - Pewter City Paragons

Roster Guidelines

Teams will be selected via a Pokémon draft. Once a player selects a Pokémon, that player will have exclusive access to that Pokémon. Think of it like that team owns the Pokédex number. This includes Mega forms and any alternate forms the Pokémon may have. So, for example, it Player A drafts Venusaur, that player has exclusive access to Venusaur in its base form as well as Mega Venusaur.

Team rosters will consist of a maximum of 10 Pokémon.

Teams will have a cap of 550 PokéPoints. PokéPoints (PPts) are the value that a team "pays" for a particular Pokémon's rights.

Pokémon that are initially drafted will be assigned a value based on what round they are drafted in. The breakdown is as follows:
1st round: 100 PPts
2nd round: 90 PPts
3rd round: 80 PPts
4th round: 70 PPts
5th round: 60 PPts
6th round: 50 PPts
7th round: 40 PPts
8th round: 30 PPts
9th round: 20 PPts
10th round: 10 PPts

Pokémon will also have a contract length assigned to them based on what round they are drafted in. The contract length will be how long that Pokémon is under contract to a certain team before it becomes a free agent. The breakdown for inititally drafted Pokémon is as follows:
1st-3rd round: 3 seasons
4th-6th round: 2 seasons
7th-10th round: 1 season

Once a Pokémon's contract is up, it will become a Free Agent. Each team will have the ability to use one Franchise Tag on a Pokémon during each offseason. The Franchise Tag can be used on a Pokémon with an expiring contract. It guarantees the Pokémon a one season contract for the average of the top contract values (per season) in the league.

Any Pokémon that is not drafted during the initial draft process becomes a Free Agent. Teams may put a claim in to sign a Free Agent at any time. To do so, you must either post in the thread with the following info:
-Free Agent Pokémon you want to sign
-Amount of PPts you want to pay for the Pokémon (Minimum 5 Ppts)
-Number of seasons you want to sign the Pokémon for (Maximum 3 seasons)
Other players will then have 2 days to outbid the offer.

If a Free Agent Pokémon is acquired, the team will then immediately have to make roster moves to ensure that the team stays under maximum roster size and PPts cap. This will probably require the release of a Pokémon.

Released Pokémon will result in a PPts cap penalty equal to half of the Pokémon's contract worth for the duration of the remaining seasons of the contract. For example, if a team releases a Pokémon that was worth 50 PPts and had 2 seasons left on its contract (the current season counts for this if a Pokémon is released midseason), the team will be assessed a penalty of 25 PPts for 2 seasons (the current season and one more if it's a midseason release). This penatly will only apply while the released Pokémon is a Free Agent. If another team signs the Pokémon, the penalty will go away.

Trades may occur between teams. However, the PPts value of each side of the trade must be within 5 PPts. There will also be a trade deadline during the season, to be determined when the number of weeks in the season is set.

If a new Pokémon is released, it will be out of play until the offseason. If a large group of new Pokémon are released (i.e. a new gen game comes out), there will be a draft for players to try and acquire those Pokémon.

If a player leaves the league in the offseason, a new player will have the chance to take over the former player's team. If no new player joins the league to take over the team, the team will be disbanded and the Pokémon will become free agents.

If a new player joins in the offseason, there will be an expansion draft in which the new player will have the opportunity to draft Pokémon from the exisiting teams. More details of how this will work will be released if it's needed.

Season Guidelines

Teams wil be split into multiple conferences/divisions depending on the number of teams in the league.

The season will consist of a pre-determined number of weeks with one battle for each team per week.

At the end of the regular season, there will be a single elimination playoff to crown a champion. The number of teams to make the playoffs will be determined before the season starts.

Battle Guidelines

All GPL battles will follow standard ION rules. (http://iongamecorner.forumer.com/topic/2354023/Standard-ION-Pokmon-Battle-Rules#.Vs3CTpwrKhc)

Each team will select a home field battle format. The home team's battle format will decide the battle format for each scheduled battle. Teams may switch home field format during the offseason only.

Registration Guidelines

To register, simply post in this thread with the following info:
Team Name: This is a city in the Pokémon world and a team name. For example, the Pallet Town Pikachus (NOTE: You do not have to use the name of a Pokémon as your team name.) Offensive names will not be allowed.
Trainer Name: The name you want your trainer to be referred as in the league.
Friend Code:
Home Field Format:
Team Colors: This is so I know what to use to create your team logo. You may also create your own logo if you wish.

The tentative deadline to register is Sunday, March 6th. This may be extended.

I'll be designing my own logo. On that note, if anyone wants me to do a logo for their team, I'd be more than happy to do so. Just get in contact with me (PM, Facebook, E-Mail... whatever works for you) with a rough/general idea of what you're looking for and I'll see what I can do!

You guys may want to consider taking Ruppy up on his offer. My graphic design skills are severely limited. And by limited, I mean, I basically use a text logo site to create text logos. If you want anything fancier than that, you might want to ask Ruppy nicely.

That being said, I will do logos for anyone who doesn't supply their own.

How is the draft going to be done, if you don't mind me asking? I'm curious since I wouldn't mind giving this a shot, but if I'm not going to be able to draft because of however you plan on getting everyone together it feels pointless to jump in to me.

It won't be all at one set time. It will take place over like a week to make it as easy as possible for everyone who would like to do it to be involved. What it will come down to is once the current pick is made, I will contact the next person to get their pick. I'll end up creating a website or google doc or something that has a list of all the picks made so you know who has been taken.

Here's my official entry:

Team Name: Pewter City Paragons
Trainer: Alexander
FC: 1993-7579-0707
Home Field: Triple
Colors: Silver and Black

Now, today is the day for the start of the draft. First things first, a quick rundown of the league now that we're locked in with 11 teams. I have randomly divided the league into 2 divisions. Here they are:

Lance Division: Littleroot Town Blazeknights (LIT), Cerulean Stars (CS), Blackthorn Bloodseekers (BLA), Olivine Beacons (OLI), Pewter City Paragons (PEW), Anistar Aura (ANI)
Steven Division: Cerulean Celebis (CC), Pallet Town Heroes (PAL), Pyrite Raiders (PYR), Lavender Town Spectres (LAV), Mauville Gamblers (MAU)

Each team will play 10 battles, one against every other team in the league. At the end of the 11 weeks (each team will have a bye week), 6 teams will make the playoffs. Each division winner will receive a first round bye. The next 4 best records (regardless of division) will be wild cards.

Now, for the draft. The draft will be a snake style draft, which means that the order is reversed every other round. So, the person who picks first in the first round will pick last in the 2nd round. I will be contacting you when it is your turn to make a selection. I have a Google doc spreadsheet set up that I will be updating as each person makes a selection. This way, everyone will know what Pokemon have been taken. To start, there will be no time limit to make a pick. I feel as if this will move along fast enough. If we are getting later in the week and not moving fast enough, I may put a time limit for picks in. I'm also going to create a new Facebook group chat just for this draft, as many of you are on Facebook. Those who aren't, don't worry, I'll be contacting you via PM when it's your turn to pick. Here is the draft order:

1-CC
2-LAV
3-MAU
4-OLI
5-PEW
6-CS
7-PAL
8-PYR
9-ANI
10-BLA
11-LIT

My goal is to create a page on the ION website for the league that will have all of the pertinent info. I'll post the full schedule up there before next Monday when the league will officially begin. Rosters will also be there. I will try and have logos done by then too. If I don't need to make you a logo, and you haven't already let me know, please do so.

With the draft done, we're just about ready to roll. I've uploaded a new spreadsheet to the Google Drive that has all of the info for the league. It has everyone's basic info, league standings, schedule, complete draft results, and there are individual tabs that show each team's roster with contract info and stats. I'm hoping to not have to re-upload each week, so this link should be good all season. The league starts Monday.

Week 1 is officially underway. I'm going to update the 1st post of the thread, but I am requesting that the person who is the home team posts the battle video for each battle. Please BOTH PLAYERS save the video, just in case something happens, but I would like the battle videos to be from the home player.

Sometime in the next few days, I will have a page on the IGC website for the league. It will have the link to the spreadsheet and everything else there. Keep in mind that one person each week will have a bye week because of the odd number.

Here is the Week 1 schedule (the home team is listed second):

Anistar @ Mauville
Lavender @ Cerulean Stars
Olivine @ Blackthorn
Pyrite @ Littleroot
Pallet @ Cerulean Celebis

Bye: Pewter
